Information on Residence Permits for non-EU Citizens


After consultation with the local Ministry of Foreign Affairs (C4 Directorate Justic, Home Affairs and Schengen, contact person: Mr. Liousis in charge of visa matters, Tel.:  30 210 3684187) we have been informed that the holder of a valid residence permit, who has obtained it through the purchase of a property with a value of more than € 250,000,- , does not need a visa to travel within the Travel Schengen Agreement Zone.

He only has to show his passport and the corresponding residence permit when he travels. It goes without saying that the residence permit is not associated with a work permit.


Residence Permit

The granting of a residence permit is only valid for citizens of non-EU member states who either purchase real estate or make strategic investments in Greece with a value of more than € 250,000,- .

The value of the property is stated in the purchase or leasing contract. The property can belong to a legal entity, but the shares or stake in the company must be fully owned by the person applying for residence.


Application

In order to obtain the residence permit, interested parties or a person authorized by them must submit an application to the competent municipality (Dimos) or the one-stop-shop service (Ypiresia mias Stasis) of the Directorate for Immigrants of the region of their residence in Greece (Diefthynsi Metanastefsis tis Perifereias tou topou katoikias).

The General Secretary of the Decentralized Administration (Genikos Grammateas Apokentromenis Dioikisis) issues a 5-year residence permit.


Renewal

The residence permit can be extended again and again (for a further 5 years) if the interested party continues to own the property.


Travel in the EU

The holder of a residence permit for Greece has the right to travel to other countries in the Schengen Agreement zone for up to 3 months per half year.
